Excellent job on my bike tuneup. I went from grinding my gears and my chain falling off my large front chainring to being able to climb steep hills while in that ring. My speed vastly improved after Michael tuned up my bike. Great attention to detail. I am very happy with the job he did and the prices I got on both my carbon road bike and my hybrid. I would highly recommend Performance Bike of Cary.
My husband and I were just talking about Performance Bike and how snotty and rude the Cary location employees are. We got online to see if anyone else said the same thing and can see there is a trend. If you ask a question it's like you are a total freaking idiot because you don't live, eat and breathe cycling. We asked about getting our bikes tuned up (with our membership plan thing...forgive me for not knowing the "legit" term) and the guy was like "oh, you aren't getting in here for weeks!" and was super condescending and ridiculous. Now, I'm a bit high maintenance by my husband is cool as a cucumber 99.9% of the time and has a high tolerance for jerks. When my husband says he won't go back somewhere because of poor and ignorant customer service, you can bet it's pretty bad. On the upside, we explored the Chapel Hill location of Performance and had the exact opposite experience. They were awesome! We bought 2 bikes the same day and gear and they have been nothing but nice and efficient. Our advice don't hate on Performance Bike, just the Cary location.
I love this place over others in the area. If you are shopping around (browsing) go there during an off peak time. This place can get really busy and everyone walking in wants "personal" attention. I've bought 2 bikes here and have been very happy happy with my service. I will say, don't buy unless there is a sale, or make sure you negotiate the price (just as you should anywhere). Bike gear can be soooo expensive! But there are real differences in quality so find that balance.
I walked in today with my daughter's brand new bike and an older adult bike. Her bike was put together by Toys R Us... Come to find out the brakes needed a little help. They fixed her bike on the spot. The older adult bike had flat tires and had been in the garage a while. I asked for a tune up but after a once over, they said the bike was in good shape and it just needed air in the tires. How much was I charged? Nothing. The "repairs" they felt were minor and they didn't feel right charging me. I would not have blinked an eye if they charged me $50 or more. So grateful for honest and kind people. They could have definitely taken advantage of someone like me...so clearly clueless about bikes. Shout our to Eric and Michael. Your service made our day...took my daughter for a lovely and safe bike ride this afternoon.
I visited the Cary store this afternoon. I had excellent service from Tyler who answered the phone and gave me very patient and detailed directions to the store, to Anthony in service who so graciously suggested what I needed for my bike (new tires and tubes). They also matched the online sale price on an item that I needed. I mentioned that I had purchased the bike there several years ago but had never taken it in for its tune up. He honored the original free tune up with purchase policy and my bike will also be tuned up for the first time. They will have my continued business. It is worth the 59 mile drive to know that I am getting the best price and service. Thank you.
